About the original:
The Sd.Kfz. 165 Hummel was one of the most significant self-propelled artillery vehicles used by the German Wehrmacht during World War II. Developed to provide mobile artillery support for armored divisions, the Hummel was based on a modified Panzer IV chassis and equipped with a powerful 15 cm sFH 18/1 howitzer.
Production began in 1943, and the Hummel was immediately deployed on the Eastern Front, where its high firepower and mobility gave German forces a strategic advantage. With its armored structure, the vehicle could withstand enemy fire while the open fighting compartment allowed for quick operation of the howitzer.
A total of over 700 units were produced until 1945. Although primarily used for indirect fire support, the Hummel was also capable of self-defense in emergency situations, thanks to its mounted MG 34 machine gun.
Today, the Sd.Kfz. 165 Hummel remains an iconic vehicle of the Wehrmacht and is highly popular among model builders and military historians. Preserved examples can be found in museums and collections worldwide, showcasing the history of this remarkable self-propelled artillery piece.
