About the Peugeot 205 GTI:
The Peugeot 205 GTI is considered one of the most iconic hot hatches of the 1980s and remains a benchmark for compact performance cars. With its lightweight, agile chassis and powerful engines, it won the hearts of driving enthusiasts and set new standards in its class.
Introduced in 1984, the 205 GTI was available with two engine options: an initial 1.6-liter four-cylinder producing 105 hp (later increased to 115 hp) and a more powerful 1.9-liter version with 130 hp. Weighing just around 900 kg, the 205 GTI had an excellent power-to-weight ratio, delivering outstanding driving dynamics. Its sharp steering, sporty suspension, and precise gearbox made it a true joy to drive—whether on city streets or winding country roads.
Beyond the road-going version, the Peugeot 205 also made a name for itself in rally racing. The Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, a highly modified Group B variant, dominated the World Rally Championship, securing titles for Peugeot in 1985 and 1986. While the production 205 GTI shared little technically with its rally counterpart, it still carried the motorsport DNA and spirit of its championship-winning sibling.
